Melissa McLeod is an avid birdwatcher and amateur naturalist from Detroit. Her birding journey is not a linear one, but escalated upon spotting a pair of Hooded Mergansers at Belle Isle. Hoping to shift the “nature is elsewhere” narrative of the city, she began documenting the birds of Detroit and sharing her sightings on Instagram. She has led walks for the Detroit Audubon Society, and organizes her own sporadic birding walks that are intentionally informal, inclusive and leaderless.

While hiking the Aiea Loop Trail on Oahu, Hawaii, the hills in the distance seemed to form a heart. That hike inspired a screen print, sticker, patch, and this pin.

I love to do and make. I've been a crafty businesswoman since childhood, selling friendship bracelets for 25 cents each on the playground in elementary school and collaged bookmarks throughout middle school. By high school I'd graduated to brick and mortar stores, selling beaded bobby pins at a local store. Since childhood I've split my time between two cities and have done the same during adulthood. As a sentimental and nostalgic person as well as a frequent traveler, it made sense to marry those aspects together in the form of an illustrated souvenir and sideline collection. My initial idea? If I could preserve everything I love about Portland, then I would feel more at ease leaving it. What started as a website detailing everything in my heart/on my sleeve about Portland morphed into related accessories since I'm a crafty person. I launched the first tote bag in summer 2010 with help from a bunch of other creative friends. My product line has expanded, but my ethos remain the same: making things I'd want to use myself and things that are fun and whimsical. Over the past few years I've expanded my souvenir line to celebrate other cities and states such as my part-time home base of Los Angeles as well as New York, plus Washington and the Midwest, where family lives.

Anethum is a female-owned and operated business started in 2014 that aims to create quality, pieces that you’ll want to wear everyday. With products ranging from minimal gold and sterling silver jewelry, hair pins, brass home goods, boob shaped jewelry, and flower brooches, all of Anethum styles are handcrafted in Philadelphia by owner and designer Whitney Rumble. Each piece of jewelry is made with care and given special attention to detail while embracing the “imperfections” of the hand at work. With the launch of the boob shaped line, Melopepo, in 2016 our mission shifted to also provide goods that give back and lead to meaningful conversations that will bring us closer together as a community. Whitney was born and raised in Colorado, after moving to Philadelphia in 2005 she feel in love with the city and decided to make it her new home. She graduated from Tyler School of Art with a BFA in Printmaking and entered the work force getting a typical 9-5 job. She still longed to create and work with her hands so she signed up for a Jewelry making class at Moore College and that’s were her love of working with metal began. What started with making pieces for herself slowly grew to friends asking for pieces then into an actual business. Anethum is based out of her home in Philadelphia that she shares with her husband, dog, cat and new baby boy, Harris. Anethum comes from the latin word for the Dill plant, a tribute to her old dog Dill.

Our luxury-quality 22-karat gold gilt lapel pins are decked with vivid cloisonné colors and have a magnetic backing. Delicate enough (and damage-free!) for your favorite tops but with magnetic strength that allows them to be worn on even heavy-weight denim.
