While hiking the Aiea Loop Trail on Oahu, Hawaii, the hills in the distance seemed to form a heart. That hike inspired a screen print, sticker, patch, and this pin.

Christopher Payne is an illustrator, designer, and printmaker who grew up on the outskirts of California’s Mojave Desert. Whether in ink, watercolor, screen printing, or other practices, his work focuses on the natural world during a time when its ecosystems are constantly under attack and changing drastically. Acknowledging fate with grace, his work cultivates beauty out of darkness and stresses the importance of balance. Payne got his start by being actively involved in the underground music scene, and in 2004, he founded Folktale Records, a record label that specialized in limited edition, hand-packaged releases on a variety of formats, which he ran for thirteen years. In 2011, he co-founded Fine Print Press and remains editor-in-chief of its imprint Fine Print, an independent literary and visual arts magazine. In 2021, he co-created Orb.church, a website that crafts a poem based on your natal chart and pairs it with illustrations. He has done book design and illustrative work for Vegetarian Alcoholic Press, Dancing Girl Press, Tilted House and Ghost Peach Press. His artwork has appeared in Birdcoat Quarterly and Reed Magazine; in the television shows Silicon Valley (HBO), Loosely Exactly Nicole (MTV), The Big Door Prize (Apple TV), and Walker (The CW); in the film Frogman; and in galleries throughout the United States and abroad. He currently resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Astral Weekend is an elf-adjacent, rainbow-saturated brand that collaborates with the best of West Coast art weirdos to make affordable treasures for everyone. We donate 10% of the profits from our popular Etsy shop to our local Nisenan tribe and The Cofed, a BIPOC-led organization working for food and land justice. All of our stickers, buttons, apparel, magnets and sun catchers are manufactured in the USA. Our personal experience on the fringe of California culture informs everything we create. We serve the hippies, the road trippers, the goths, the gays, the riot grrrrls, the cat ladies, the herbalists, the nerds, the witches and wizards, and the people who just refuse to take it all too seriously.

Many years ago when Dodgers season tickets were affordable (about $4.50 a ticket for the whole season) I went to games about 40 times a year. Beach balls at a baseball game might seem fun if you're one of those casual 2 game a year type fans, but just like hearing "Don't Stop Believing" during the 7th inning stretch it gets annoying the 100th time you see it. The ushers would catch the balls and pop them when they could so I just started helping them out. I would get boo'd by the entire section of fans. It was exhilarating. I had a collection of popped balls on my corkboard at work. One time a guy next to me stood up and pointed to the top of my head and said "HE HATES FUN!" and the whole section cheered. This button is just to let you know that ahead of time.
